One charge of attempted murder was dropped yesterday against an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview.
William Green, 29, was bound over for trial on the remaining charges of aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner, simple assault and recklessly endangering another during a preliminary hearing in Centre County Court yesterday.
Green allegedly beat James Deitrick, 26, into unconsciousness and threw him over a railing, from which he fell 12 to 15 feet, Jan. 6, according to court records, which said that he did it to "keep (Deitrick) quiet . . ."
Deitrick and his cellmate owed Green 20 packs of cigarettes for cocaine purchased in the prison, Deitrick explained from his hospital bed the next day, according to the records. He had given Green only 18 packs.
A trial will be scheduled for the court's June term. Green's bail is set at $10,000 and he is being held at Rockview.
