Think first
Once again a Collegian columnist has written first and thought later. I believe Nick Capo's article "Japan bashing: the newest form of American whining," was simply mistitled. A better title would have been, "The Collegian-My Opinion article: the newest form of American whining." Coming from a dairy farm in Berks County, it was amusing to read Capo's accusation that the dairy industry is a $2 billion leech off the United States government and its people. This could not be further from the truth. Agriculture, including the dairy industry, is consistently one of America's strongest industries. It is also the only industry that annually produces a surplus. It is true that subsidies are directed toward agriculture and its workers, but this is a much more efficient process of allocating resources compared to unemployment and welfare. Perhaps Capo could pursue an agricultural economics degree in place of being a non-degree graduate student.
