NORML endures
Hemp, Hemp, Hurray! The Collegian should be whole-heartedly commended for its frank and timely reporting of the Penn State chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Law's attendance at the Pennsylvania Democratic state committee meeting this past weekend. The short article on Feb. 10, however, failed to detail the boldness of the demonstration. The NORML members held a large placard spelling out H-E-M-P (one letter per person) and other slogans throughout the six-hour meeting. This was an Olympic feat of mental and physical endurance! Most Democratic committee members had little clue to the meaning behind the words, but many were enticed to inquire further. Unfortunately, our political leaders at the convention are not very knowledgeable about the economic, medicinal, and social benefits of this amazing plant. Anyone who would like to educate themselves on this subject should be aware of the PA-NORML conference this Thursday and Friday. The headline speaker will be Dr. John P. Morgan, director of pharmacology at the City University of New York Medical School, Thursday at 7 p.m. in the HUB Ballroom.
