Stand up and fight
This Wednesday marks the 18th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. On Jan. 22, 1973, the Supreme Court handed down Roe v. Wade, guaranteeing women the fundamental Constitutional right to decide whether or not to have a child. Not only did this case provide Constitutional protection to choose abortion, it established "freedom of personal choice in matters of marriage and family life." Courts have used this freedom to ensure many other rights, including the right to use contraception and the right to informational privacy. Courts have also used this freedom to ensure the right to be free from forced sterilization, court-ordered contraception, and court-ordered abortion. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, none of these rights will remain secure. This could easily happen. Pennsylvania's anti-abortion law could provide the vehicle for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. The pro-choice majority must fight back! Pro-choice advocates at all levels of government have introduced legislation to ensure the right to choose. But they need to know that we are behind them. If you believe in the right to choose, and every right that extends from that, get involved. Write your representatives. Join Penn State Pro-Choice. And, most importantly, register to vote.
