Teen-age fugitives identified

Collegian Staff Writer

Four teen-agers, arrested Sunday in State College, have been identified as the fugitives suspected of murdering a bar owner and his companion last week in Harris County, Texas.

Susan Renee Elledge, 19, of Texas, who is wanted on theft charges, and Dennis Wayne Beaty, also 19 and of Texas, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested by police officers from State College and Ferguson Township.

The suspects are wanted for the murder of Douglas Redd, 59, and his female companion, who were found dead in Redd's home by one of his employees, according to an article Thursday in The Houston Chronicle.

Both victims had been shot several times in what appeared to be a burglary attempt, according to the article that also stated that weapons and other items were found laying in Redd's backyard.

Elledge and one of the juveniles, whose name was not released, were arrested at Walk Auto Service, 827 S. Atherton St., where their car had been towed from Arby's Roast Beef Restaurant, 400 W. College Ave., for a parking violation, said State College Bureau of Police Services Sgt. Lewis Rusnak.

The two suspects told police the other suspects went to sell cassettes at a record store because they didn't have enough money to pay the towing company, Rusnak said.

The other two suspects were then arrested on the 200 block of East College Avenue by Rusnak, who was assisted by Ferguson Township police officer Keith Fitzgerald, Rusnak said.

The suspects were considered armed and dangerous but were unarmed when they were arrested, Rusnak said.

A relative in Clearfield County reported the suspects' location to Texas authorities, who then alerted Pennsylvania police that the suspects were going to pass through State College on their way to another relative's house in Lewistown, Rusnak said.

The two juveniles are being held in the Centre County Juvenile Detention Center, according to a news release from State College police.

Elledge and Beaty were committed to the Centre County Prison after being arraigned in front of Justice Ron Horner in Centre Hall, according to the release. Beaty is being held without bail and Elledge is being held on $50,000 cash bail.
