Intolerance continues

Penn State, and I believe, this community is committed to creating an educational environment free from intolerance directed towards individuals or groups.

Unfortunately not everyone has gotten the message or indeed believes in the seriousness of our intent. On Oct. 13, the Alpha Epsilon Pi house, 225 East Foster Ave., was vandalized with graffiti. Included among the dirty words were swastikas drawn on the front door of the house.

Alpha Epsilon Pi is a historically Jewish fraternity with more than 75 Penn State students as members. We should all be alarmed that such intolerant behavior has occurred in this community. Unfortunately such incidents happen much too often.

We deplore this and similar acts of intimidation whose motivation may have been childish revenge, but who engaged in acts which display insenstivity and intolerance.

I want to state as strongly as possible that such actions are condemned by this university. If the perpetrators are found to be University students, they will be subject to appropriate disciplinary proceedings under University policy.

This incident occurred off campus, and is also subject to criminal proceedings. Although it occurred under cover of nightfall, there are people who know what happened. Anyone who has any information should report it to the police.
