It's not easy to vote

Be a concerned citizen . . . register to vote! I've been hearing that since the day I turned 18. So, shortly after my birthday, I did. Great! Hallelujah! A student actually cared enough to register! Whoopee! Will she take the time to vote? As shocking as it may seem, I did.

With my new registration card held proudly (I changed my residency to State College) I walked over to Pollock Commons. Should I have checked my precinct first? Yes. Did I? No. Why would I think I could vote in Pollock? Just because I live in Wolf Hall; call me silly. The powers-that-be stuck me at College Heights School, which wouldn't be a problem if the borough would let me park a car downtown.

Since they won't, and I have class all day, voting at College Heights is next to an inpossibility. Was this planned? God forbid a student express his/her wants and be recognized. Nice democracy we have here in Happy Valley.

There is no doubt that headline news for the week will be the pathetic voter turnout among college students. The papers will accuse us, once again, of being apathetic and lazy. Save it, all right? We care. We try to vote. We don't need another lecture on what we do wrong, we need some help to do it right. Oh wise State Collegians, get a clue.
