ARHS changes voting

The Association of Residence Hall Students voted Monday night to amend the voting process on stress relief hours during finals week.

Rather than require 66 percent of dorm residents to approve the hours, only a simple majority will be needed.

"This has been a big controversy," said Chris Palma, North Halls ARHS representative. "Last year, North and East Halls as well as Atherton Hall didn't have stress relief hours and we wanted to make it a University-wide program."

Voting will be conducted by floor presidents all next week. The votes will be tallied by area advisers and results will be available the following week, Palma said.

When ARHS originally suggested the 66 percent approval for stress relief hours, many ARHS members opposed the system, Palma said.

"However, people who do not vote will still count as a no," Palma said. "It is Residence Life that is making up the ballots and they will be given to the floor presidents to distribute."
