Since the advent of televised sports in the early 1940s, professional and collegiate athletes have filled the airwaves on the road to fame. Until recently, these talented and subsequently wealthy athletes were predominately males. The women's soccer team will determine its own destiny in the Big Ten this weekend in a critical early-season road swing. As the first women's cross country meet approaches, the Lady Lions are eager to explode out of the starting blocks and run their way to a successful season. The squad's first meet is the Spiked Shoe Invitational at 10:30 tomorrow morning at the Blue Golf Course. Penn State has been on the minds of the USC players. For the field hockey team, home is where the astroturf is. Soccer Coach Barry Gorman picked a strange time to experiment with players in new positions. The day before the soccer team played Indiana, Gorman moved Steve Thomas, the leading returning scorer, to defense.
