The Collegian article of Sept. 10 regarding the University Student Advisory Board contained misquotes and statements taken out of context to describe my opinion on the restructuring of USAB. This is very frustrating, because the reporter called me at home to clarify my position, and his report was inaccurate nevertheless.
In my opinion, the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Alliance has demonstrated that membership on USAB is an effective means of voicing concerns and affecting University policy. Given the ongoing acts of intolerance toward people of different sexual orientation, I consider LGBSA's need for representation to be critical. I generally believe that USAB is too big, and this is a factor that will affect my opinion regarding future petitions for membership; however, LGBSA has only one representative to USAB, and he would not be on my short list of members to be removed.
