Yelling man arrested
Police investigate reports that man had gun

The State College Bureau of Police Services responded at about 4:10 p.m. yesterday to a report of a man with a gun on the campus side of the intersection of College Avenue and Pugh Street, Cpl. Tom Hart said.

Many passers-by saw Daniel P. Maggi of Coraopolis yelling and screaming, police said.

Upon arrival, police were told Maggi, 30, had tucked a gun into his pants. He was apprehended and searched. No gun was found. A search of the immediate area by State College police and University Police Services also turned up no gun.

Maggi denied having a gun; he was cited with disorderly conduct and released, Hart said.

Pat Stewart of 524 Locust Lane was collecting money for his fraternity on the corner of College Avenue and South Pugh Street when he saw a man screaming at people. The man, who looked like he had a gun sticking out of the the top of his pants, then stopped, Stewart said.

Stewart (senior-administrative justice) said he then saw police officers walking toward him. An officer went behind the man and apprehended him, Stewart said.
