Informing incoming women on how to prevent rape from happening to them is not only a good idea, it is also a necessary one. Stereotyping fraternities and the Greek system however, is wrong. They are not to blame for all of the problems on and off of this campus.
What kind of message is this to send to newcomers at Penn State? "Finally 'Joe Frat Rat' has his chance to 'get some' from your conveniently inebriated state." ("A Real Crime" Reader Opinion, Sept. 6) You might as well have said, "Stay away from fraternities because men rape women there." If that is the case then should they refrain from going to apartment parties and male dormitories, or even going out on a date with a man because rape occurs in these situations also? As for first year students, be careful, but be open-minded.
