  • Man arrested for alleged rape: William B. Whitehead, 38, of Altoona was arrested yesterday on rape and burglary charges, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

Last September, a State College woman reported that Whitehead had allegedly raped her on Hamilton Avenue while she was walking home from work around 2:30 a.m., police said.

Whitehead was also charged for allegedly taking a microwave oven from the International Friendship House, 244 E. Nittany Ave., police said.

Whitehead has been charged with rape, indecent assault, unlawful restraint, and false imprisonment, police said.

Whitehead had previously been charged in Centre County but failed to appear for jury selection. Whitehead has been in custody of the Providence, R.I. police since March 7 and held as a fugitive from justice, police said.

Whitehead was arraigned before District Justice Clifford Yorks, and bail was set at $10,000, police said. A preliminary hearing has been set for Wednesday.

Rhodes was treated at Centre Community Hospital and released, police said. The horse was killed due to the extent of its injuries. The owner of the horse is not known.

  • Theft: Lisa Capobianco, 110 N. Gill St., reported that her bicycle and lock were taken from the south side of Osmond Laboratory sometime June 18, University Police Services said.
