The members of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity had just finished dinner and were relaxing around the table. John Edwards sat among them, smiling, ready to start the second part of his daily routine.
 
A 1991 version of a medieval joust on the HUB lawn Saturday afternoon highlighted the ninth Phi Sig Superstars, a philanthropy that raised $72,000 for leukemia treatment research.
 
Surrounded by four-and-a-half tons of fruit, members of the Association of Residence Hall Students spent Saturday morning preparing traditional fruit support baskets available for pick-up in area offices until tomorrow.
 
Although fossil fuel resources, such as coal, will not be depleted for almost 700 years, humans need to find an alternate energy source now, said an associate professor of geosciences Thursday.
 
Breaking out in free-style stepping, dancing, and just good-ole fooling around, sorority Sigma Gamma Rho joyfully shouted "Go-Go Ggggo Go-Go Ggggo Go-Go Ggggo S-G-Rho. . .It's that Sigma sisterhood" and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers feverishly stomped around and screamed "AAAAA Phi AAAAA!" to boast that they are the new champions for this year's National Pan-Hellenic Council step show competition.
 
Students and area residents sang and danced on the muddy HUB lawn yesterday in the name of saving the Earth.
 
To spirited cheers and chants, Spring Week 1991 ended last night in Eisenhower Auditorium with skit finals and an awards ceremony.
 
Yesterday's rainy weather did not discourage some students and town residents who moved their 43-lap walk-a-thon, benefitting local programs on domestic violence and sexual assault, to Rec Hall's track.
 
W. Terrell Jones, the University's special assistant to the provost for underrepresented groups, recently interviewed for an administrative position at the University of Toledo, even though he said he is "happy where he is now."
 
 
SPORTS
 
Whew! This one was close.
 
After playing 50 minutes of lacrosse yesterday afternoon in the worst conditions they could remember, the members of the women's lacrosse team just wanted the game to end.
 
Under less-than-perfect weather conditions, the baseball team managed a split with visiting George Washington on Saturday.

Things weren't looking too good on Thursday going into the third event of the night for the men's gymnastics team. After struggling on the floor exercise, the team dug itself a hole and needed some help getting out. Once again, as it has done all year, the rings team of Jamie Downer, Mike Masucci, Rich Briggs, Mike Reichenbach, Adam Carton and Wayne Cowden did the job.
 
Incredibly, this weekend's monsoon managed to keep its rains away from Nittany Lion Track.
 
The Nittany Lion Relays are over. They not only subdued the Happy Valley monsoon season, the multi-purpose meet provided ample opportunities for individuals to perform and gain invaluable experience.
 
Performances on the vault and uneven bars led the women's gymnastics team to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships on Friday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala. However, sub-par performances on the balance beam and floor exercise stopped Penn State from placing higher than fifth.
 
After a sluggish first half, the Blue team came back from seven points down with three minutes left to win the 1991 edition of the Blue-White game, 29-28, Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium.
 
Tired, plain tired.
 
After running into Oklahoma's near record-setting performance at the team finals Friday night, the men's gymnastics team and the sold out Rec Hall crowd were looking for a little pick-me-up.
 
It turned out to be a classic duel Friday night in the team finals of the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships.
 
All it took was 33.97 seconds.
 
Sure, the offensive line may still be a problem for Penn State.
 
The softball team only played half of its Atlantic 10 weekend, but the Lady Lions made the most of it.
