No Pity
Suzanne Lieto's column about the hardships of being a beautiful woman in modern society saddened me deeply. I had no idea that being good-looking could be such a curse. It sure is a good thing that women are socialized away from anger. I am sorry to say, Suzanne, that I cannot empathize with your pain. Fortunately for me, I was born without the terrible burden of such good looks. Thank God! I couldn't imagine what it would be like if women were constantly complimenting me on my looks, or even worse, asking me out all the time! I don't know if I could stand it. Yes, fortunately for me, I don't have to put up with any of that. If my car were to break down on the side of the road, I wouldn't have to worry about anyone stopping to bother me. And when I get pulled over by the police, I never have to experience that gnawing anxiety of wondering whether or not I'm going to get a ticket; I know what the answer is. Thank you, Suzanne; I never realized how lucky I was until I read your column. The fact that you were able to share your personal Hell, as well as your bust size, with the entire Penn State community is a tribute to your courage and modesty. I cannot speak for all the sexist, testosterone-poisoned males who would compliment your cleavage, Ms. Prom Queen. But I can promise you without reservation that you'll never hear a "nice breasts, baby," out of me. The only part of your anatomy that I care to comment on is the size of your swelled head.
