Letter to the Editor
Like it or leave it
Are the classes getting so easy that no one has anything better to do than lament the problems of a society which they have no possible control or influence over? Take the Playboy issue for example. What is the issue anyway? They are the premier men's magazine in the United States here to look for women willing to pose for some pictures (for a nice sum of money, I might add.) As the left-of-center individuals (politically correct, I presume) at this University like to point out, the First Amendment provides for the freedom of the press. Where are those fine defenders of the constitution now? They are ranting about women's rights being violated. Look, no one forced anyone to take their clothes off. It's pretty difficult to violate the willing. I believe it is about time the Collegian stop acting as the platform for the not-so-silent minority at this campus, and start representing the students' values as a whole. Both articles in the April 4 Collegian contained the views of the Undergraduate Student Government Department of Women's Concerns. Hardly unbiased reporting. Also, concerning the "mistake" of printing an advertisement for Playboy's spring break issue, is it really that easy to set type and do the matting for a 1/4 page ad? It looks to me as though the Collegian came under some pressure to print a retraction. Get some balls, Collegian, and print what you and your readers want, not what some special interest group was whining about. I like Playboy. Not because it degrades women and makes me feel superior, but because it honors women by showing their beauty and potential. Playboy isn't just a porno rag, it is a men's magazine (entertainment for men) that represents men's views and features things of interest to men. I love women, and I like Playboy. If you don't, don't buy it.
