More results from last week's Undergraduate Student Government elections ballot were announced during the USG Senate's final meeting of this session.
Head Elections Commisssioner Wendy Goldstein reported the final votes on a variation for a fall break are as follows:
-- No break -- 1,420 votes.
-- All federal holidays off -- 651.
-- A five-day weekend during the Fall Semester -- 885.
-- A full week off during the middle of Fall Semester -- 827.
-- Thanksgiving week off -- 401.
In other business, the senate passed a resolution allowing its Administrative Contact Committee to investigate the possibility of University-declared snow days.
The committee will work with members of the Association of Residence Hall Students and the Organization for Town and Independent Students to see if it is feasible for the University to cancel classes on days of heavy snowfall. Senators cited unsafe conditions for commuting students, faculty and physically handicapped students on campus as reasons for cancelling classes.
The Senate failed to pass two resolutions that responded to conditions in Israel. One resolution called for USG support of a strong U.S.-Israel alliance and a declaration of condolence for Israeli victims of the Persian Gulf War.
The second called for USG disapproval of the Arab boycott of Israeli businesses, and asked USG to urge the University Board of Trustees to divest from all Arab countries involved in the boycott. Town Senator Mike Snider proposed both resolutions, saying they were in the interest of Israeli students on campus.
Senators argued that both resolutions were out of the realm of USG and that not all senators were familiar enough with Israeli conditions to vote on them.
