Police Log

  • Friday morning fire damages local home: A fire caused moderate damage to the laundry room and bedroom of a house at 419 W. Whitehall Road early Friday morning, Alpha Fire Chief Robert Kauffman said.

    Kauffman said the fire at the David Coe residence started accidentally in the dryer and spread to the second floor bedroom. It took 54 Alpha volunteers 20 minutes to control the blaze, Kauffman said.

    The fire was reported at 7:20 a.m., and crews remained on the scene for more than 2 hours, Kauffman said.

  • Criminal Mischief: Maureen Volz, a Food Services manager, reported that a window was broken Wednesday night or Thursday morning in Dining Hall C in Johnston Commons, University Police Services said. Police estimate the damage at $250.

  • Criminal Mischief: Paul Payerchin of 320 E. Beaver Ave. reported that the rear window of his vehicle was smashed by a large piece of concrete while it was parked at Pennsylvania Pizza, 538 E. College Ave., State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    Police said the incident occurred between 12:30 and 1:40 Saturday morning.

    No damage estimate was available, police said.

  • Criminal Mischief: Thomas Davidson of 420 E. Prospect Ave. reported that the side mirror was broken off of his car and thrown through the driver's side window while it was parked at his house, State College police said.

    Police said the incident occurred Thursday or Friday.

    No damage estimate was available, police said.

  • Theft: Employees at Accu-weather, 619 W. College Ave., reported that a hard disc drive unit, an IBM personal computer and various other computer items were taken from the building between Feb. 9 and March 13, State College police said.

    Police said the equipment was worth more than $8,000.

    No signs of forced entrance were found, police said.

  • Theft: Employees of Bell of Pennsylvania, 222 S. Allen St., reported that a phone booth owned by the company was taken from the rear of 467 E. Beaver Ave. at about 2:15 a.m. yesterday, State College police said.

    No estimage of loss was available, police said.

  • Theft: Timothy Phillips of 215 W. Fairmount Ave. reported that his black Cannondale mountain bicycle was taken Thursday afternoon while secured to a bicycle rack on the west side of Electrical Engineering West building, University police said. The bicycle is worth $900.

  • Theft: Members of Sigma Pi fraternity, 303 Fraternity Row, reported that a large moosehead was taken from above a fireplace at the fraternity, State College police said.

    Police said the head was taken after midnight Saturday.

    No estimate of losses was available, police said.
