The fighting team
This year's USG elections will have important ramifications on student life for years to come. Adding "sexual orientation" to the University's nondiscrimination policy and concern over state funding are major issues which need to be addressed by the next USG administration. The Leslie Osborn/Michael LaFlam ticket is the only one with the vision and expertise to work on these issues. Osborn/LaFlam will continue the fight to add "sexual orientation" to the nondiscrimination policy. The other tickets have given either tacit approval or come out against the clause to protect ROTC. As USG Senate president, I worked on a report which stated that ROTC would not be removed from campus if the clause was passed. The Faculty Senate report made the same conclusion. Leslie Osborn, co-director of the Student Coalition for Commonwealth Education, worked to fight expected tuition increases. Leslie organized a campaign to send letters to all parents of in-state students asking them to lobby their legislators to increase funding. Leslie also helped organize a meeting on March 25 with Lt. Gov. Mark Singel and student leaders to discuss the state's budget and its effect on the University. Harrisburg experience is also important for the open budget. A bill requiring that state-related institutions have open budgets will be introduced in the state legislature. The Osborn/LaFlam ticket will use their experience to lobby for this legislation. A successful USG administration must combine these long-range goals with short-term goals. The Osborn/LaFlam ticket has recognized this. Short term goals for Osborn/LaFlam include improving computer accessibility and providing more co-ed housing. If you're worried about how much tuition you'll pay in the future or if you believe that all persons should be protected from discrimination, do what I'm going to do, vote Osborn/LaFlam!
