A 12-year-old Boy Scout fell 40 feet into a cave in Pleasant Gap on Saturday and was trapped for more than five hours before workers could rescue him.
Troy Crothers was exploring the cave on Saturday with his Boy Scout troop from Delta, Md., when he fell off a ledge, Royer said. Royer said the Pleasant Gap Fire Co. responded to a call at 5:30 p.m., and The Nittany Grotto and rescue units from Undine, Shippensburg and Carlisle arrived to free Troy.
Troy emerged from the cave at 11:15 p.m., Royer said. He said Troy had a laceration on the back of his head and neck and back injuries. He was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital, nursing supervisor Linda Bierly said.
