The best ticket

If you take some time to stop by the USG office, 203A HUB, or to read the platforms in the voters' guide in the Collegian on election day, you'll get a good understanding of what the USG executive candidates are really planning to do for you.

You'll probably notice, as I did, that most of them are similar not only to each other, but to the platforms that we've seen regurgitated year after year in USG elections. All except one.

Mark Stewart and Merryl Werber are the only ticket that seems to recognize the power and potential of USG. Everybody's talking about student services. But only one ticket has it on its platform. Everybody's talking about what they want to do to improve the quality of life for students. But only one ticket has it on its platform.

A 24 hour downtown computer lab so you never have to trek from town to Redifer again. When you're hungry and broke, grab a meal downtown and use your meal plan points, just like they do at Pitt, American University and Duke (among others.)

When you're coming back from Fraternity Row at 2:30 a.m., stand at the corner of Fairmount and Foster and take the extended Town Loop back to campus without fear of walking through dark streets. Go eat at the Cellar or Fast Break on weekends. Take a bus to Pitt, Notre Dame or wherever the big game is.

Use the expanded fitness and weight training facilities without waiting hours. Don't try to explain to your parents again why there's a 90 minute call on their phone bill. Call the 1-800 scheduling number instead. This is what "Creating the Impact" is all about.

Stewart/Werber's platform is based on the premise that USG is a student organization and its foremost responsibility is to serve the students that elected them. This responsibility, however, does not end there.

USG is responsible for voicing the concerns and issues facing students, such as rising tuition and inadequate state funding. It is responsible to strive for a comfortable and equal campus enviroment for all underrepresentated groups. It is responsible to challenge the administration expand the HUB and Paul Robeson cultural center, improve health care, especially for women students, and more.

Mark and Merryl have already been working on these issues for you. They have the competence and experience to lead USG and speak for you.

Tangible accomplishments provide a strong foundation for this voice. They are the path to true representation for the student body. Without providing the service within their power, USG cannot advocate student concerns. But with confidence in USG restored, the executives can speak with a strong, united voice on all issues.

If you think USG should be doing more, if you feel it should serve, as well as speak for you, if you believe that discussion is good but action and response are better, if you believe that service to students is the primary responsibility of USG, then vote Stewart/Werber and join us in Creating the Impact!
