Exhibits ranging from bedrock fractures in New York's Appalachian plateau to Penn State's electrically driven, artificial heart assistant pump will be showcased at the Graduate Research Exhibition this weekend.
The exhibition will be shown from 10 to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Kern Graduate Building today and tomorrow.
The sixth annual exhibition will feature research projects by 102 University graduate students from various campuses. Students volunteered to participate in the program and all interested were accepted.
Jeff Hufton, member of the Graduate Council Committee on Research, said the program was designed to give graduate students an opportunity to present the results of research they have done.
"It is a benefit to the public to see the results and the diversity of the research," he said.
Hufton said each student will be given a 4-by-8 bulletin board which they can cover with papers to show their results.
One incentive to enter is the $10,000 in prize money to be awarded. Head judge Herbert Siegel, head of the department of poultry science, said that first, second and third prizes will be awarded in four catagories: humanities, life and health, physical, and engineering sciences. Siegel said the 23 judges will base their decisions on content and general visual appeal.
Awards will be announced at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
