Baseball team to play LaSalle, C.W. Post, weather permitting

Collegian Sports Writer

Tomorrow the baseball team will conclude its 13-game road trip, and Sunday will begin its 10-game homestand.

The Lions play a doubleheader against LaSalle tomorrow, weather permitting, as the team will look to end its road trip on a positive note. The team is 2-8 after its annnual season-opening swing through Florida. C.W. Post will be in town for a doubleheader on Sunday, again weather permitting.

"We just want to play now that we're back from Florida," Coach Joe Hindelang said. "It's another exam for us, we have people in the proper position now."

The Lions will send a couple of right-handers tomorrow, as Jeff Burris will work the first game and Mike McRoberts will pitch the late game. McRoberts came in relief last year and was the winning pitcher in the team's 7-5 win over the Explorers, as the Lions took both games of a doubleheader last season.

"I feel more comfortable starting," McRoberts said. "It's easier to prepare instead of coming in relief."

McRoberts had control problems in Florida, as he has already given up as many walks in three games as he did all of last year. He'll look to control those problems as he goes for his first win of the season.

The team also took both games from C.W. Post, winning 5-1 and 7-3, last year. Left-hander Randy Geis will go in the opener with freshman righty Dean Kerns going in the second. Chris Cisar and John Maggiore will be the closers coming out of the bullpen this weekend.

Hindelang is just looking for his team to keep improving upon its performance down South. For the first time this season the Hindelang has the lineup he wants.

"I'm looking for the players to be comfortable and confident in their role, which has been told to them," Hindelang said. "Each player has to take their ability and get to the next level."
