The Lady Dukes of James Madison rallied from a three-point half time deficit to defeat Kentucky 70-62 in a east regional first round game last night at JMU. Saturday, James Madison (24-4) will be No. 1 Penn State's (29-1) first obstacle in the NCAA tournament when they meet Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in Rec Hall.
Penn State, Atlantic 10 champions for the sixth time in the last nine years, earned a No. 1 seed in the East and a first-round bye by defeating St. Joseph's 78-63 in the A-10 championship game. Ranked number two for most of the season, the Lady Lions snatched the top spot when then-No. 1 Virginia lost in the ACC tournament to Clemson. Clemson would be Penn State's third-round opponent if the Lady Tigers defeat Providence and the Lady Lions defeat James Madison.
Against Kentucky, the Lady Dukes continued their streak of never having lost a first-round game in the NCAA tournament. James Madison went on a 21-4 run in the second half to take control of the game. JMU built their lead up to 10 points. The Lady Dukes did this without the benefit of their three-point shooting, which is tops in the nation. Last night JMU made only one of eight three-point attempts.
The "Road To The Final Four" starts 1:30 Saturday afternoon in Rec Hall. Tickets are still available for the Lady Lions' game vs. James Madison and are on sale at the Rec Hall Ticket Office. Prices are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth, senior citizens and PSU students with ID.
