Be a part

At first glance, it may seem that the students at Penn State live in harmony, but on closer inspection there is a tremendous amount of intolerance which surfaces in the forms of homophobia, racism and sexism among others.

It seems many choose to ignore that intolerance exists: They hope it will disappear or get resolved on its own. It has become obvious that the only way to improve the atmosphere here at Penn State is through education. For this reason, Project Growth was established.

The purpose of Project Growth is to allow an opportunity for University students to increase their awareness and tolerance of human relation concerns. This is accomplished through a variety of programs sponsored and organized by Project Growth.

These programs confront a variety of sensitive topics and allow an open forum in which students can voice their feelings and concerns. The programs have ranged from discussions such as "Racism: How it Affects Penn State" and "Homophobia: Let's Listen" to free showings of movies such as "Do the Right Thing" and "Glory."

In order to continue our success in improving the atmosphere on campus, we need your help. We are in search of people with new ideas and new approaches who are willing to work with us toward a common goal.

Don't miss this opportunity to get involved.

Project Growth is currently recruiting for the 1991-1992 academic year. You can pick up an application at the Campus Life Assistance Center in 135 Boucke Building. Applications must be returned by 5 p.m. Friday, March 29. An interview will follow those selected applicants. There will be an information meeting on at 7 p.m. March 19 in 120 Boucke Building for all those interested.

Apply for Project Growth. Don't pass up your chance to be a part of the solution!
