For my brother

My friends were impressed by my poem to my brother. I had never written a poem and simply wanted to express how I feel about him being in Saudi Arabia. I was separated from the U.S. Air Force after nine years of service and can't be beside him so I wanted to let him know that I'm behind him.

I live in the greatest country on earth,

I can shout, I can scream, or stand up and rave.

I can look up into the deep blue sky,

and see old glory wave.

In America we can do and say what we want

without paying any cost.

Yet we must remember those who have fought for

and paid that price.

Our forefathers, and now our fathers, sons, and brothers

and many have been lost.

Our world is again in conflict,

our loved ones fight in a faraway land.

Their footprints, their sweat, their blood and their tears,

are starting to saturate the sand.

And among these men and women

who stand so tall and so brave,

Is my brother, my best friend, who's put his life forth for me,

The traditions and safety of our flag he fights to save.

My brother, be safe, be strong as you serve

for my flag and admiration you continue to preserve.

As I think of you now my eyes fill with tears,

and if I think of life without you, my

heart fills with fears.

Do your duty and make your family and country proud.

The day will soon come when I tell you I love you,

I'll shout it out loud.

So, my brother, my best friend,

Come home safe, come home proud,

but please, "Come home."
