Poor coverage
The Daily Collegian's uninformative and sketchy coverage of an important local event is disturbing. Your account of the anti-war rally and speeches on Feb. 16 by the largest local coalition of peace groups is further evidence for the growing realization that the national media has slanted their coverage of the gulf war. Bludgeoning the public into buying the "official story," the press is marginalizing the voices of the minority who challenge the administration's propaganda by documenting the moral, economic, political and environmental reasons for immediately stopping our brutal aggression on the people of Iraq. An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind, Ghandhi cautioned those quick to pull the trigger in championing freedom. By giving more coverage to the justifications of those who favor bombing the people of Iraq, the supposedly "free press" in general, and your newspaper in particular, are keeping the majority blind to the escalating horrors of American violence in the gulf.
