Letter to the Editor
Sincere regrets
The Center for Academic Computing wishes to clarify some of the points raised by Claudia LoMonaco's letter (Feb. 7.) The Microcomputer Order Center shares Claudia's frustration with the slow delivery of the Apple Macintosh Classic computers. We have been conveying our displeasure, along with that of our students and faculty, to Apple Computer. We continue to press for improved deliveries and will continue to assist faculty, staff and students in addressing alternatives to stalled orders. At the time Claudia placed an order for an Apple Macintosh Classic computer in early December, we offered a best estimate of late January as the probable time of delivery. Few foresaw the extreme popularity the Macintosh Classic would garner. As a result, orders for this system quickly exceeded manufacturing capability. This phenomenon continues and currently delivery schedules for new orders stretch into the summmer. Upon asking what could be done in light of the expanded delay in delivery, Claudia was appropriately informed of the available options. Wait for delivery, ask for a refund or purchase a different system. The Microcomputer Order Center sincerely regrets any difficulties the slowed deliveries of Apple Macintosh Classic computers have caused to students, faculty and staff. We are doing everything possible to speed deliveries and will work with customers in attempting to address their concerns.
