Letter to the Editor
Sensationalist story

I feel the article on Bellefonte by Joe Tarr (Feb. 8) required a letter to the editor.

That kind of sensational and unwarranted "news" article does not do either town any justice.

What is the point of such an article that is reminiscent of days gone by? If you would poll people, you would soon find that this type of feeling among citizens is the exception and not the rule. Only the small minds feel as the people interviewed feel.

Why is the hospital move from Bellefonte always brought up? The hospital belongs in State College since it is by far and away the largest center of population in the county and it makes good health care sense to be there.

Relations between the two towns are positive and will stay that way in spite of sloppy journalism and small minds. The small minds would do better to keep their mouths shut and perhaps do some free public service to better their community.

In my contacts with people in State College, I hear and sense from them that they are pleased with all the good things that are happening in Bellefonte and that once again we have a sense of pride and accomplishment as a community.

This type of unwarranted and negative writing needs to stop. There are a lot more worthwhile articles to write about Bellefonte; and, I really do not appreciate the use of four-letter words, even though they are quotes.

As far as I am concerned, the reporter just flunked Journalism 401.
