In response to student demand, a snack bar will open in dining hall B of South Halls' Redifer Commons on March 14, said Lisa Wandel, assistant director of food services.

The snack bar will be open from 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, Wandel said.

The snack bar will offer a variety of items, Wandel said, such as prepared salads, hamburgers, hotdogs, cheesesteaks and frozen and regular yogurt. The bar will also feature a grill for other food.

"We're offering not only fast food but some health items too, because students have been asking for it," Wandel said.

South Halls President Joe Milazzo said he was pleased.

"I think it is something that will benefit the community of South Halls," Milazzo said.

Wandel said Housing and Food Services will have a contest to name the snack bar.

The snack bar, which will be staffed by Redifer Dining Hall employees, will be open on a trial basis until the end of the semester, Wandel said. If it is successful, she said, more permanent fixtures will be installed this fall.

"We're starting out very small and learning as we go," Wandel said.
