Preliminary hearings

-- David Hoover, 20, of 1861 N. Oak Lane, waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday on charges of theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle, a spokeswoman for the Centre County court administrator's office said.

According to court records, Hoover was arrested Jan. 27 on charges of taking a 1977 van from the rear lot of Joel Confer Pontiac, 1101 N. Atherton St., on Dec. 30.

Hoover is being held at the Centre County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail and is scheduled to stand trial at the Centre County Courthouse sometime during April or May, the spokeswoman said.

-- Scott Skolnick, 23, of Somerville, N.J., waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday on charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property, a spokeswoman for the court administrator's office said.

According to court records, Skolnick was arrested Feb. 6 on charges of cashing a $2,500 check on a closed account from a New Jersey bank.

Skolnick is being held at the Centre County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to stand trial at the Centre County Courthouse sometime in April or May, the spokeswoman said.

-- Dean Garbrick, 27, of Bellefonte, was bound over to court yesterday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless driving and numerous other violations, a spokeswoman for the court administrator's office said.

According to court records, Garbrick was detected driving at a speed exceeding 100 mph, and led Rockview State Police on a 10-minute high-speed car chase on routes 26 and 550 on Feb. 3.

Garbrick is scheduled to stand trial at the Centre County Courthouse sometime during April or May.

-- A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Jason Bender, 23, of 283 Easterly Parkway, after he failed to appear at the Centre County Courthouse for his preliminary hearing yesterday, a spokeswoman for the court administrator's office said.

According to court records, Bender was charged with recklessly endangering another person after he allegedly fired his rifle into a neighbor's living room on Dec. 1.
