Stolen honors
Although U.S. involovement in the gulf is a very controversial topic, I think everyone is unified with one thought: the hope that the troops will all come home quickly and safely. One way to show this concern is by displaying yellow ribbons and American flags in honor of those fighting for our country. People all around this nation are keeping this tradition alive, and the members of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, 329 E. Beaver Ave., tried to do the same. An American flag and a U.S. Marine Corps flag were proudly displayed on the front porch. Apparently, someone with respect for neither the troops in the gulf nor for our national flag, stole the American flag from the porch. Sigma Tau Gamma later tied yellow bows, thoughtfully and painstakingly made by a brother's girlfriend, to each and every post around the front lawn -- 16 in all. This was Friday afternoon, Jan. 25. By the next day all but two were missing. If people do not agree with honoring our servicemen and women, they can disagree on their own time and their own property. But to steal someone else's tribute to friends and relatives? What an ignorant thing to do. So, please, if you care about our troops, display those yellow ribbons and flags, and if you do not care, then protest on your own, but let the rest of us show our support.
