  • Bellefonte man dies in accident: A Bellefonte man was killed in a two-car collision at 4:09 p.m. Friday at the corner of Atherton and Pugh streets, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    Police said Charles W. Kustanbauter, 69, of RD 4, was traveling south on Atherton when he attempted to turn left in front of a car driven by Walter L. Ziffer, 22, of York. Ziffer's car collided with Kustanbauter's car in the intersection.

    Kustanbauter died of multiple traumatic injuries in Centre Community Hospital, Centre County Deputy Coroner Kerry Benninghoff said. Ziffer was not injured, police said.

  • Man robs Pizza Hut: Pizza Hut, 760 S. Atherton St., was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at gunpoint at 11:51 p.m. Saturday, State College police said.

    Employees told police a man entered through a rear door and confronted them with a small, silver handgun, police said. The man ordered the employees to give him the money from the cash registers, police said. The man then left through the same door he had entered, telling the employees not to move or he would shoot them, police said.

    The offender is described as a black male with black hair, mustache and beard. He was reportedly 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. Police said he was wearing a dark, knit winter hat and a windbreaker.

    Police said the man fled on foot. Police said the investigation is continuing.

  • Man leads police on high-speed chase: A Bellefonte man was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless driving and numerous other violations following a 10-minute high-speed chase on routes 26 and 550, Rockview State Police said.

    Police said they detected Dean Garbrick, 27, driving at a speed exceeding 100 mph, and the chase ensued. Police said they ran Garbrick off the road to prevent him from harming other drivers.

  • Student assaulted at fraternity: Farooq Kalim, 100 Pinchot, reported that he was assaulted at Delta Chi fraternity, 325 E. Fairmount St., Saturday night, State College police said.

    Police said Kalim and three friends were attending a party at the fraternity when they were approached by an unknown man. An argument began, and Kalim was told to leave, police said.

    Kalim was leaving when he noticed one of his friends being harassed, police said. Police said he attempted to intervene and was thrown to the ground and kicked in the ribs.

    Kalim was taken to Centre Community Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

  • University employee dies of natural causes: A University employee died yesterday afternoon after collapsing at the White golf course, University Police Services said.

    William S. Loy, 56, of 412 Sylvan Drive, was pronounced dead at about 12:40 p.m. at Centre Community Hospital, police and Centre County Deputy Coroner Kerry Benninghoff said. Benninghoff said Loy died of natural causes.

  • Burglary: Employees at the Days Inn, 240 S. Pugh St., reported that a door to the pool area was damaged and cassette tapes, towels and a Panasonic dual-cassette player, valued at $117, were taken, State College police said.

    Police said the items were taken between 10 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

  • Criminal Mischief: Robert Troia, 106 Hartranft, was cited for throwing two barricades on Pollock Road near Davey Lab early yesterday morning and released, University police said.

  • Criminal Mischief: Kevin Torek, 1215 Old Boalsburg Road, reported that a roll of toilet paper was ignited in the men's restroom, 206 Electrical Engineering West, Friday afternoon, University police said.

    Torek extinguished the fire and no damage resulted, police said.

  • Criminal Mischief: Employees at Mike's Video, 228 W. College Ave., reported that unknown people fired 11 ball bearings through a window at the store, State College police said.

    Police said the incident occurred between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. No damage estimate was available.

  • Criminal Mischief: Employee's at Colonial Accents, 115 E. Beaver Ave., reported that a group of unidentified males broke a store window at 10:12 p.m. Friday, State College police said. No damage estimate was available.

    Police said the men had just exited the Phyrst, 111½ E. Beaver Ave.

  • Criminal Mischief: Employees at Charmaine's French Bakery Cafe, 140 Kelly Alley, reported that a large window was broken with a stone overnight on Saturday, State College police said.

  • Theft: Abbe Fox, 204 Hiester Hall, reported that her $400 black wool coat was taken from Delta Upsilon fraternity, 229 Locust Lane, State College police said. The coat was taken early Saturday morning, police said.
