Letter to the Editor
Distorted view
While the world focuses on conflict in the Middle East, that prominent editorialist, Chino Wilson, has decided to declare war on the entire white race. So, I too will step out of the real world and into Chino's distorted one. His is a world where all Caucasians fail to "value the lives of African-Americans," and where six blacks were wrongly punished for doing something horrendously wrong. According to this genius, the evils of white society continue to plague the world. Mr. Wilson quickly destroyed any credibility for his argument by flatly declaring that his "immediate conclusion was that the boys were innocent." I didn't realize he was an eyewitness. Or maybe, he doubts that any member of his race could do wrong. Then he attacks the New York City police which is ironically headed by an African-American or as Chino would say, a "brother." Regardless of whether the young men were tricked or not, they did confess to the merciless crime. Both the black and white women were victims of vicious crimes. The black youths who attacked the jogger were victims of their own stupidity -- they put themselves in jail -- they needed no "snakes" to put them there. It is unfortunate that in the same week of Martin Luther King's remembrance, a person like Mr. Wilson must draw battle lines. Racism is a two-way street. Chino Wilson needs to realize this and practice a little responsible journalism. And if Mr. Wilson wants to blame the white race for putting violent criminals behind bars, then I will proudly take credit. And maybe someday, Mr. Wilson will mature from his distorted, fearful, paranoia-driven world and see the real one -- a society united in a common purpose to rid the world of crime, not to start race wars. But until he does, let's keep him out of the editorial pages.
