It is disgusting that a fellow, young, aspiring, educated sociology major would have such a narrow, radical view of the subject of rape.

Regardless of color, Chino, a woman was battered, cheated of her rights, raped, and left for dead. I believe that as a sociology major, you need to learn something about the subjugation of women, both African-American and white. If you have not done so, please do this society a favor and enroll in Sociology 110, sociology of the sex roles, or Speech Communication 455, gender role communication, offered here at the University. These courses will educate you further and make you more aware of the issue at hand.

You claim that any white man who would rape a sister should be castrated or even killed. My God, Chino, have you not learned that all men and women are given rights by the Constitution? I am a devout follower of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Therefore, if there are injustices in the system, all Americans whether of European or of African-American descent should take a stand. I agree that all victims of rape deserve the same amount of media coverage, since rape needs to be addressed equally. A rape is a rape regardless of color.

Finally, you refer to the police as snakes. As a sociology major you should know that the criminal justice system is necessary to govern and to protect the citizens, all citizens of this nation. Calling them snakes shows ignorance and a disrespect for the men and women who work so hard to uphold the law. A law was broken, Chino. Get a clue or wake up and realize that the Central Park jogger case was not a racist ploy on part of the criminal justice system. It is this very ignorance that contributes to both the persistence of stereotypes and the subjugation of women.
