NEWS
 
State College Mayor Arnold Addison vetoed an ordinance increasing parking fines despite the State College Borough Council's unanimous vote to approve it.
 
The University's master's of business administration program is not far from a ranking among the nation's Top 20, according to the latest edition of Business Week's Guide to the Best Business Schools.
 
Due to mounting tensions in the Middle East, the University cancelled two of its Spring Semester Study Abroad Programs on Friday and other student trips have been altered.
 
The University's budget cuts and hiring freeze will not slow progress on the University Research Park, a University official said.
 
For the second year in a row the University leads the nation in faculty Fulbright Scholars -- this year boasting 14.
 
The Latino Caucus will ask for a seat on the Undergraduate Student Advisory Board to increase its representation in student government decisions.
 
Many students are unaware that bicycle riders are subject to the same laws as motor vehicles and can be fined as much as $84 for a traffic violation. State College Bureau of Police Services are trying to change that.
 
As the economy falls, the country craves ice cream.
 
The Graduate Student Association and the Returning Adult Student Organization hope today's blood drive will replenish blood supplies that were depleted over the holidays.
 
 
SPORTS
 
It is ironic that the women's swimming and diving team faces Virginia on Saturday, since Penn State's freshman sensation Jen Baird could have gone to Cavalier country, until her recruiting trip to Happy Valley changed her mind.
 
Attaining its highest score ever for a season-opening meet, the Penn State women's gymnastics team placed first in a four-team meet Sunday at West Virginia.
 
Last weekend's snow, sleet and freezing rain definitely proves why track and field events are held indoors during the winter.
 
The ice hockey club has earned first place in the International Collegiate Hockey League by going undefeated in three games to begin the second semester.
