Police Log

  • Accident: A car driven by John P. O'Neill, 40, of 410 Martin Terrace, was struck yesterday by a car driven by W. Ettinger, 40, of Douglasville, State College Bureau of Police said. Ettinger was stopped at the intersection of University Drive and Easterly Parkway behind several other cars, according to police reports.

    O'Neill told police he crested the hill on University Drive and saw Ettinger but was unable to stop before striking him, causing moderate damage to both cars.

  • Accident: A car driven by Richard Lee Reese, 24, of Bellefonte, was struck yesterday by a car driven by Yong Joolee Kim, 29, 860 Cricklewood Road, State College Police said.

    Kim attempted to turn left from University Drive onto South Atherton Street in front of Reese, who was driving in the opposite direction on University Drive. Kim hit Reese's car, causing moderate damage to both cars' front ends.

    Kim told police he was traveling about 15 miles per hour because he just pulled away from a traffic light and did not see Reese's car.

    Reese told police he went through the intersection at about 35 miles per hour. When he saw Kim's car, he applied his brakes but could not stop in time, according to police reports.

  • Accidental Damage: The windshield of a car owned by Lori Mahen was broken by a golf ball sometime between 9 a.m. and 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, University Police Services said. The car was parked in Lot Red A when it was hit. Damage is estimated at $200.

  • Burglary: Clothing was stolen from David Mengden at Beta Theta Pi fraternity, 220 N. Burrowes, sometime between May 10 and July 11, State College police said.

    Items taken include a bomber jacket worth $350 and a red and white men's ski jacket worth $300. Also taken were a London Fog overcoat, three sweaters and an electric typewriter.

    Police said the door was locked and Mengden believes the room was entered through the window.

  • Criminal Mischief: Student Security Assistant Patricia Husar reported a smoke bomb in the elevator of Hiester Hall early yesterday morning, University police said. Unknown persons set off the bomb, which caused no damage, police said.

    No injuries were reported, although a man walked off the elevator amidst the smoke, police said.

  • Theft: A man's black onyx watch, worth $1,600, was reported taken from Raymond Waclawsky, 403 S. Allen St., State College police said. The watch was taken between July 1 and July 10 from Waclawsky's top dresser drawer in his bedroom. Waclawsky told police he was out of town at the time. Police said there are no signs of forced entry and no suspects.

  • Theft: A mirror, a red metal toolbox and its contents were reported taken from Susan Corbett's booth at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts sometime between Wednesday and yesterday, State College police said. The booth is located at 100 W. Fairmont Ave. The toolbox is worth $100 and the mirror worth at $95, police said.

  • Theft: The center brakelight was reported taken from the car of Deborah Eckley, of Bellefonte, yesterday, University police said. The light was taken sometime between 7:50 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. Tuesday while the car was parked in Lot Blue D. There are no suspects, police said.
