Members of the State College Borough Council should go for a hike, according to some area residents who attended last night's public hearing on neighborhood preservation.
 
Last year the University received the highest increase in state appropriations in 17 years, but it seems unlikely Penn State will receive a similar funding increase again this year. And that could mean a steeper rise than expected in tuition.
 
University President Bryce Jordan last week signed an agreement with officials from two English universities to examine setting up a joint program at a planned corporate park in southern England.
 
The state Department of Education last week submitted to Gov. Robert P. Casey the name of a candidate to replace Student Trustee Christina Henke.
 
Unlike some farmers, David Tait and his brother have never sprayed their apple orchards with pesticides. They plant marigolds and nasturtiums among the vegetables in their gardens to ward off insects. They've tried releasing ladybugs to control other pests on the farm.
 
The State College Area School Board increased a tax hike for district residents to the equivalent of $1.5 million when it passed its 1990-91 budget last night.
 
Ben H. Bagdikian, a media critic for more than 30 years, is the winner of the 1990 Lowell Mellett Award, which recognizes excellence in the criticism of print and broadcast journalism.
