Bringing top named speakers to the University and hosting statewide College Republican events helped the Penn State College Republicans win Pennsylvania's College Republican Club of the Year Award, the club's chairman said.
 
Sorority rushees will not be allowed to drink alcohol for 24 hours after receiving their bids this year due to a new National Panhellenic Council rule.
 
In order to be an effective organization next fall, members of the recently formed Latino Caucus plan to spend this summer informing incoming students about the group and exploring University resources.
 
The State College Area School District, facing an almost negligible increase in appropriations from Harrisburg, unveiled a preliminary 1990-91 budget Monday that would raise real estate taxes and reduce vocational/technological school shops.

SPORTS
 
Over the next five days the men's tennis team will undergo a true test of endurance.
 
When Princeton's Eleanor Tydings scored with more than 20 minutes to play in yesterday's women's lacrosse game, it looked as if the Lady Tigers were once again on the prowl against Penn State. The Lady Lions only led by one, and there was plenty of time for a Princeton recovery.
 
A strong hitting effort and an impressive showing on the mound gave the baseball team (18-9) two easy victories over Cornell (7-17) yesterday at Beaver Field.
 
What started out as a friendly challenge ended in Karen Bill's most successful shot put of the season Saturday at the Six-Way Meet Classic in Philadelphia.
 
The softball team received a nice present last weekend in the form of the championship to the inaugural Lady Lion Blue Classic. The Easter Bunny is gone, though, and at 3 this afternoon the Lady Lions (17-11) meet Kent State in a tough road battle.
 
Since men's volleyball player Guillo Silva transferred from Holy Cross in 1987, the talent around him has diverted opponents from his rightside hitter position -- until this season.
 
All collegiate athletes are blessed with physical ability. What separates the good athletes from the rest is the ability of their minds.
 
Life is not getting any easier for the men's lacrosse team. After losing to No. 8 Rutgers in overtime last Saturday, it must now face No. 3 Loyola at 3:30 this afternoon at Jeffrey Field.
 
The rugby club is heading back to the Midwest Tournament at Bowling Green. Three victories there would return it to the national championship Final Four for the second consecutive year.
 
Greg Young has proved to be the only dominant mainstay in a pitching staff which has suffered from its share of injuries and inconsistent performances so far this season. The Lions' lineup, though, has brutalized opposing pitchers since the very beginning of the season.
 
This weekend the 19th annual Nittany Lion Relays will be dedicated to Tom Kleban, a Penn State decathlete and pole vaulter who was paralyzed in a swimming accident last summer.
