  • Girls drive around Milesburg then arrested for joy-ride: Two Howard girls were arrested for taking a car for a joy-ride Tuesday afternoon, state police at Rockview said.

    Police would not identify the girls, ages 14 and 15, who reportedly took a 1984 Nissan belonging to Victoria Ponist of Clarence while it was parked outside Groves Garage in Milesburg at 2 Tuesday afternoon. The car was recovered later that night in Jacksonville, police said.

    The two girls were charged with theft, police said. One girl was released to her parents and the other was placed in a juvenile detention center.

  • Car hit while parked in an Oak Road parking lot: A car owned by Whyn Lee, 6 P Graduate Circle, was damaged in a hit-and-run accident while it was parked on Oak Road between 10 p.m. March 31 and 10 a.m. April 1, University Police Services said.

    The damage, consisting of two large dents on the left side and part of the rear bumper, is estimated at $400. Gray paint was left on Lee's car by the hit-and-run driver, police said.

  • Fake fight inside Pizza Pi later becomes a real fracas: A fight late Tuesday night at Pizza Pi, 231 E. Beaver Ave., resulted in one citation, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    A fraternity member reportedly started a fight after someone in the pizza shop laughed at him and his girlfriend, who appeared to be fighting but were just joking around, police said.

    The man was later identified as a member of Phi Kappa Sigma, 234 E. Beaver Ave.

    The man was kicked out of the shop by an employee, police said. He returned with several other fraternity members and several punches were thrown.

    The fraternity member suffered a bloody nose.

    Police did not say who was cited.

  • Driver applies brakes but car skids into speed sign: A 35 mph sign in College Township was damaged late last night when a car ran into it, State College police said. The vehicle sustained moderate damage.

    Beverly E. McMurtrie, RD 1 Bellefonte, was turning onto Elmood Street from East College Avenue when a car stopped in front of her, police said.

    When she pressed the brake, the car skidded into an embankment on the right and hit the sign, police said.

    Damage to the car was estimated at $600 and damage to sign was $90.

  • Theft: A $700 mountain bike belonging to James Dickerson, 420 E. Prospect Ave., was reported taken from Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, of the same address, sometime between March 30 and March 31, State College police said. The bike was in the fraternity library when it was taken.

  • Theft: A $470 mountain bike was reported taken from 126 S. Garner St. sometime between March 28 and April 2, State College police said. The bike belongs to John Farr, 357 E. Prospect Ave.

  • Theft: An overnight bag and contents worth $415 owned by Lee Stelacone, 107 Irving Hall, was reportedly taken from 131 South Henderson sometime between 2:15 and 8:30 Monday afternoon, University police said. The flowered bag contained clothes, glasses and various personal items, police said. Stelacone reportedly left the bag in the room after a class.

  • Theft: A $375 model of a honeybee was reportedly taken from 101 Patterson sometime between March 20 and 27, University police said. The room was left opened several times during the week, police said.
