Letter to the Editor
Voting is serious
I was reading the (Opinions) page Monday (March 26) when I came across a letter I could not just sit and read. The letter that burned me up so bad was the one about "silly elections," and the point the author seems to be making is that student government elections should not be taken seriously. I, for one, am sick and tired of this irresponsible attitude which is simply far too pervasive throughout the student community. Not important! How can anyone say that student government is not important? Student government can make a difference, and it should! From USG president and vice president right down to the "least important" offices like residence hall areas president and vice president, student government should be taken seriously. Of course, I suppose as long as people like Alyce Beasly spread such attitudes, this may not happen. But if some people could rethink their views a little and realize how much of a difference student government can actually make, maybe, just maybe, things might be a little different.
