  • Coburn man beaten, injured after attack by acquaintance: A Coburn man was reportedly assaulted with a baseball bat Friday night, state police at Rockview said.

    A person known to James D. Whitehead, 25, reportedly attacked him with a baseball bat at about 8:30 Friday night, police said. Whitehead was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital after the incident, according to hospital officials.

    Police are still investigating the incident. Police did not know if the victim was related to James G. Whitehead, an University student and an Undergraduate Student Government presidential write-in candidate.

  • Bellefonte authorities report December courthouse theft: About $1,300 in cash and checks was reported taken from a locked filing cabinet in the Centre County Sheriff's department at the Bellefonte courthouse between Dec. 22 and Dec. 27, Bellefonte police said. Police chose not to release the information until Friday.

    Authorities could find no signs of forcible entry and have no suspects. An investigation is continuing.

  • Coat, tap among items taken from local fraternity houses: Thefts were reported at three local fraternities during the weekend, the State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    A wallet containing cash and credit cards belonging to Jennifer Roy, 340 E. Beaver Ave., was reportedly taken from the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, 234 E. Beaver Ave., early Thursday morning, police said.

    The wallet was apparently left on a desk when it was taken. Police would not say how much money was taken.

    Sometime between Friday and Saturday, a black wool coat valued at $200 belonging to Melissa Mayhew, 600 W. College Ave., was reported taken from Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, 351 E. Fairmount Ave., State College police said.

    A tap for a keg and clothing belonging to several members of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, 220 N. Burrowes Road, was reportedly taken from the fraternity at about 3 Saturday morning, State College police said.

    The three incidents were filed under separate reports.

  • Blaze in campus parking lot claims local woman's auto: A Dodge Aries parked in Parking Lot Brown G caught fire Saturday morning, University Police Services said. The fire was quickly put out by responding University police officers.

    The car, which belongs to Sharon Krimmel, 918 Lillian Circle, began to billow smoke from under the hood when she started the engine, police said. The cause of the fire could not be determined.

    The car was destroyed.

  • Criminal Mischief: Someone walked on a car belonging to Mary Miller, 631 Circlewood Drive, while it was parked in the McAllister Street parking garage between Friday and Saturday, State College police said. Estimates of damage were not available from police.

  • Indecent Exposure: A man reportedly exposed himself to a female while she was getting into a car on the 200 block of South Sparks Street at about 1 Saturday morning, State College police said. No further details about the incident were available.

  • Theft: A $500 18-speed mountain bike owned by Dean Cooke, 532 E. Foster Ave., was reported taken from the 100 block of East College Avenue sometime between Thursday and Friday, State College police said.

  • Theft: A ceramic birdbath was reported taken from the front of the Shaver's Creek Environmental Center in Pine Grove Mills sometime Saturday morning, University police said. The birdbath was valued at $229.

  • Theft: A bicycle and a lock belonging to Kyle Brophy, 130 Holmes, was taken from outside the dorm Friday morning, University Police Services said. The bike and lock were valued at $220.

  • Criminal Mischief: A window at the entrance of Fisher Hall was reported broken early Friday morning, University police said. A damage estimate was unavailable.
