To bring more attention to Moslem culture, Project Growth will present a panel discussion on "The Muslim Culture and Perspective" at 7 tonight in the Paul Robeson Center's Auditorium.
"It is the mission for Project Growth to provide educational opportunities on a variety of cultural issues," said Dave King, member of Project Growth.
The panel will consist of Moslem students and Project Growth members, King said. The event will be conducted as an open forum.
Students will discuss the history of Islam and what the Moslem culture has to offer to the University, King said.
"There isn't a lot of attention given to Islamic students here," said Will Minggia, another member of Project Growth.
"And with Ramadan this month, we wanted to focus on Islam," King said.
Ramadan is a month on the Moslem calendar when Moslems fast during the day and then break the fast at sunset, said Najwa Merchawi (graduate-computer engineering).
"I am very interested in attending the presentation," said Merchawi, adding Ramadan is a religious month of prayer and thoughts of God.
Since there are few classes offered on Islam, this discussion will be an opportunity to raise awareness of the University community concerning the Moslem culture, Minggia said.
"We can help other students become more aware of Moslem students," Minggia said.
King said he hopes this presentation will enhance the level of cross-cultural contact at the University.
A turnout of 50 or more students is expected, he added.
