Police Log

  • Fuel pump may have started car engine fire: A newly installed fuel pump may have caused an automobile fire in Parking Lot Green B near the Music Building Wednesday afternoon, University Police Services said.

    At 2:10 Wednesday afternoon, police used a Department of University Safety fire van to extinguish the flames in the engine compartment of a car owned by Ronald Banerjee, 249 E. Nittany Ave., police said. Banerjee was attempting to put out the fire with a towel when police arrived. He was not injured.

    The fire was contained to the car's engine, but police did not know how the fire started or the cost of the damage.

  • Two cars crash as driver pulls out of parking space: Two cars were damaged Wednesday afternoon when they collided on Pike Street in College Township, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    David E. Hosterman, 264 S. Main St., Pleasant Gap, was backing out of a parking lot on Pike Street when Tzyy-Jane Lay, 125 Graduate Circle, was turning onto the street, police said.

    Hosterman told police his vision was blocked by a truck, and the two cars rammed into each other, police said.

  • Burglary: A case of beer was taken from a campsite at Bear Meadows Road in Harris Township, State College police said. A window was found broken, resulting in $250 damage to the window and window sill.

    Police did not know when the burglary occurred.

  • Theft: A Gucci purse valued at $150 was reported taken from Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, 417 E. Prospect Ave., at 1:30 a.m. on March 17, State College police said. The purse, belonging to Laurie Bryon, 619 Heister, was reported taken from a porch roof where people were socializing, police said.

  • Theft: A $100 bicycle belonging to Roy Guthrie, 714 Geary, was reported taken from the bike rack outside the building sometime between Feb. 26 and Tuesday, University police said.
