Letter to the Editor
Recruiting drive
The Student Hearing Board is in the process of recruiting members. The Student Hearing Board is the only all-student hearing body within the disciplinary system at (Penn State). It has a very important role in hearing disciplinary cases that occur in, or are related to, residence hall living and is made up of students who are very carefully selected and who receive a great deal of valuable training to help them in making reasonable and fair decisions. There is certainly not much glory associated with being on the board. Its members are those who are willing to sacrifice -- both in hearing and training time -- and exercise those very difficult skills of weighing evidence and making difficult decisions. However, I can think of no better way of serving the University or of achieving personal satisfaction and valuable skills than to be accepted as a candidate and to serve on this board. I would hope that anyone who reads this letter would understand that the services of the members of that board are appreciated. I would like to encourage any University housing resident to consider applying for the selection process. It would be an experience that would serve others and be a lifetime benefit to you. Applications for the Student Hearing Board may be picked up at the Boucke Information Desk, March 14 to 23.
