The Centre County Commissioners approved an $80,000 grant application yesterday to help finance a revision in the Centre County Solid Waste Plan.
First approved in 1985, the plan outlines how the county's long-term waste disposal prepares for the next 10 years, said Centre County Planning Director Bob Donaldson.
"The county is responsible to service at least 10 years of disposal capacity," Donaldson said.
The final draft of the plan is now in the review stage and will soon be examined by the county commissioners, the Centre County Solid Waste Authority, the townships and boroughs of the county, residents and the state Department of Environmental Resources.
The county is entitled to receive up to 80 percent of the costs to develop the plan from the DER, he said.
