One of the Undergraduate Student Government presidential tickets may be disqualified or fined after elections are over.
"It is unfortunate with the problems with the elections court, it had to wait so long," said Head Elections Commissioner Brien Kocher.
Last week the Eric Epp/Sue Donohue ticket filed a complaint against the Jim Van Horn/Denys Wilmer ticket for inspiration of religious prejudice.
Van Horn asked Epp during last week's crossfire session at the USG debate if the U.S. Constitution and the Bible contradicted one another, which one would he follow?
The hearing will be conducted by an elections code hearing board, which was created Sunday night by the USG supreme court. The hearing board consists of members of the elections court, which was given an injunction because of inconsistencies in the elections code.
The hearing board will meet tonight to organize itself and chose a chairman, but the actual hearing will not take place until over the weekend, said Mark Murphy, a member of the hearing board.
"We are getting together to figure out what is going on," Murphy said. "After the court dissolved us, we stopped meeting. We have never reviewed the Supreme Court Hearing Acts, which tells us how to hold a hearing."
Murphy added that there is no rush to hold a hearing since it is not possible to hold a hearing before the elections.
"If it is after the election there is no use running around," Murphy said. "On a weekend everyone will be there."
Murphy said the hearing probably will not have too much of an effect on the elections unless Epp or Van Horn wins the election.
But Murphy added that a candidate could be fined. The fine, if $25 or less, could be taken from the $25 election fee. But if the fine was more than that, the candidates would have to pay it.
Kocher said he tried to mediate between the candidates but Epp refused.
Members of the hearing board include: Kamran Lotfi, Murphy, Daniele Nicotra and David Shimo.
