Letter to the Editor
Uninformed
We are writing in response to the inaccurate letter that appeared in The Daily Collegian on March 15, 1990. The article titled "Support Haartz" is a misrepresentation of the truth. First, we would like to state for the record that the Penn State Escort Service will NOT endorse any candidate for a USG office. Secondly, Mr. Lofstead and Hanshaw stated, "Brad indicated at the debates that the Haartz/Delong ticket supports expanding the hours to a true dusk-to-dawn service." Unfortunately, Mr. Haartz and the authors of the letter are uninformed. The escort service hours have been expanded beginning summer 1990. Mr. Haartz apparently claims that a USG member should be a liaison to the service. Once again, we must state that there already exists a USG liaison, along with seven other liaisons including: ARHS, OTIS, ISC, IFC, Panhel, GSA and the Center for Women Students. To further address the letter's inaccuracies, we must draw attention to the unrealistic claim to expand the service to non-residence downtown destinations. Unfortunately, the authors and Mr. Haartz have not taken into consideration cost and liability. Lastly, the issue of sensitivity training has been addressed and programs have been scheduled. We find it unfortunate that the information has been conveyed improperly and hope we don't encounter this in the future.
