If you have ever wondered why people at Penn State want to improve the community for underrepresented groups, this week provides a perfect opportunity to find out.
Yesterday marked the beginning of Ebony and Ivory Week, sponsored for the sixth time by Beta Sigma Beta and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternities. The week aims to help people learn about other cultures and combat racial stereotypes. It also sponsors events pertaining to woman and gay concerns, and black/Jewish relations.
Principal Joe Clark will speak at 8 tonight in Eisenhower Auditorium. Clark is known nationwide for his work at a New Jersey high school. Students interested in learning about the women's movement can hear Gloria Steinem speak live via satellite teleconference at 8 Thursday night in either 109 Willard or 308 Boucke.
Workshops on Saturday in 301 HUB will be especially helpful for those with questions about racial, gender, cultural or sexual orientation issues. These seminars create an ideal situation to simply talk about stereotypes and concerns.
Take some time to talk and listen at one or more of the events sponsored during Ebony and Ivory Week.
