HERSHEY -- During this weekend's University Board of Trustees meeting, members discovered many signs of booming changes at the University's Hershey Medical Center that have resulted from a three-year $214 million building project.
 
Protesting the treatment of dolphins by several corporations, 25 Eco-Action members organized a rally Friday afternoon on the steps of Willard Building.
 
HERSHEY -- University officials traded coffee and danishes for tea last month on a visit to several major East Asian universities and corporations in an effort to raise money for the University's research programs.
 
HERSHEY -- Although arraigned last week on federal charges of mail fraud and conspiracy, University Trustee Edward Zemprelli said Friday he has no plans to resign from his position or change his lifestyle.
 
HERSHEY -- The state's release of $7.9 million to renovate the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering West buildings at University Park will provide for the continued success of the College of Engineering, Lt. Gov. Mark Singel said at a Friday news conference.

BELLEFONTE -- A State College man charged with attempting to murder one of his roommates the night of Feb. 15 was released on nominal bail Friday afternoon after a bail reduction hearing before Judge Charles C. Brown in Centre County Court.
 
HERSHEY -- Student Trustee Christina Henke missed her second meeting of the University Board of Trustees in a nearly three-year tenure this weekend, but no one is quite sure why.
 
 
SPORTS
 
In a rain-soaked contest in Harrisonburg, Va., junior Megan Smith scored a pair of goals and registered four assists as the women's lacrosse team cruised to a 8-2 win over James Madison on Saturday afternoon.
 
Senior pitcher Gary Miller winds, delivers and catches LaSalle leadoff hitter Martin Lewin looking for strike three. Dan Karbach fares no better against Penn State's ace, and becomes strikeout victim number two. Miller then makes it a perfect first inning by blowing away Explorer Dave Mastropietro.
 
Most people around the world had a green St. Patrick's Day, but those watching the Penn State Invitational this weekend were seeing blue and white -- lots of it.
 
It's happened a couple of times earlier this season, and maybe once last season, but never in the manner in which it occurred last Friday. Fans actually lined up to buy men's basketball tickets.
 
Last week the men's gymnastics team learned the meaning of flawless -- a meet with only one major break out of 36 routines. Saturday night at Michigan State, the Lions learned the meaning of frustration --one third of the 36 routines contained major breaks.
 
Even though freshman Allison Barber became the top all-arounder in Penn State history Saturday night, the women's gymnastics team could not muster enough strength to overcome national powerhouse Georgia, which defeated the Lady Lions, 190.55-188.70. The Lady Lions easily nipped Kent State (178.95).
 
About 400 spectators, one of the men's lacrosse team's largest home crowds, watched the game against Villanova on Saturday in Holuba Hall. The usual contingent of parents were there, but the other people on the sidelines were mostly there because of the team's own promotions.
 
For the men's basketball team, tonight is a good news-bad news situation.
 
An upset of nationally-ranked Villanova in the preliminary round led the men's lacrosse team to its fourth consecutive victory in the Penn State Invitational this weekend.
 
Strong pitching and timely hitting powered the Penn State baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of La Salle yesterday, 7-5 and 8-0.
 
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Propelled by guards Dawn Staley and Tammi Reiss, who keyed a second-half run, 12th-ranked Virginia rolled over the women's basketball team, 85-64, yesterday in University Hall.
 
Six of nine boxers, including four between 125 to 147 pounds, advanced to the national championships with Northeast Regional victories Saturday at White Building.
